Do you want to try a fun, new activity while getting great exercise at the same time? Then you should come join New Bedford Community Rowing on Saturday, June 1st. We will have two sessions, one from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a second from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rowing is a fun and relaxing way to bond with your friends and family. Rowing is also an excellent aerobic workout for your entire body. It is one of the few sports that involves all of the body’s major muscle groups. You can learn a lot about yourself and will feel a sense of unity as you work with the other people on the boat.

No experience is required, and you will be sure to have a blast while you are out on the water. In each two hour session we will go over the basics of rowing vocabulary and technique, then get on the water for about an hour of real rowing! All new rowers will be aided by experienced rowers and specialized equipment to ensure that the everyone has fun. The cost is only $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Sign up by clicking here and again on the blue “Learn to Row Day” box!

Another winter storm, a little more light after work and then Spring Ahead to instantly gain another hour of sunlight! Can you believe that we have almost made it through the winter and will be out on the water soon?

Coach Ken Clark has gotten us to the Cranberry Crunch, where many of us rowed our PR!-personal record. Then again to the largest indoor rowing event on the planet-CRASH-B’s in Boston.

We have done more 2K tests than we care to count, body circuits, stadium stairs, relays, 500m sprints, 1k’s, core and we’re almost ready for our last indoor erg race of the season, ours! Then we’ll be on the water soon, within a month.

Winter is not my fav time of the year, but winter training takes the bite out of winter and prepares us for spring. This winter we have the good problem of outgrowing our training space and have been short on ergs. We are growing and I look forward to more adult masters to call team mates. I hope that you all join us and bring others to our spring season. We’ll have new challenges and adventures, plenty of laughs, some pain and most off all experiences that we’ll remember forever.

Row hard and sit tall, the sounds of New Beford Harbor will be in our ears soon,

Dear New Bedford,
Rowing is quite an immersive experience; at least, that’s how I’ve felt in the 6 months I’ve been here. It is not wildly swiping around an oar, as some cartoons seem to suggest. No, rowing is an art of precision, and also of strength and endurance. Not only that but the team itself must be ready and alert at all times to follow instructions from their coxswain. The New Bedford Jr. Team is just that – and despite some flaws (although not many), we make a wonderful team. The age variety on the Jr. Team is surprising, ranging from 10-year-olds to 17-year-olds. Each one demonstrates a special talent – whether it be posture or power, each and every one excels in one area or another. However, the very best quality is nothing unique to one person. No, the best quality is shared by everyone, and it is the love and respect that everyone has for each other, and when we consider this, we are not so much a team as we are a family.

To anyone interested in joining either the Jr. team or the adult team, I highly recommend it.
-Zane Cox, age 12
Home Schooled
NBCR Middle School Team

Dear New Bedford,
I love rowing. I used to be physically weak, but now I feel so much stronger. Everyone else notices too! Our team is very helpful and friendly. It has been a great place to make new friends. Rowing can always lift me up and I go home every day with a smile.
-Julia Barker, age 12
Dartmouth Middle School
NBCR Middle School Team

Dear New Bedford,
As far as sports go, rowing is a different story. I could never have imagined that I would enjoy a sport this much. Rowing strengthens the body and the mind and because of this I’ve become a stronger person. Rowing means putting your heart into a goal and fighting your way to it.
Paul Hoey, age 15
Bishop Stang High School
NBCR High School Competitive Team

If you are interested in joining the Adult or Junior’s Team please email rownewbedford@gmail.com or call 508-717-4013. Don’t forget to sign up for our monthly email here!
